What is PoE?
PoE, which stands for Power-over-Ethernet, represents a breakthrough in technology. It merges power transmission and data delivery via a single Ethernet cable. How does PoE work?
PoE is based on the IEEE 802.3af standard, which specifies low-voltage direct current (DC) power over Ethernet cables. This standard allows a maximum of 15.4 watts of DC power to be delivered to a device through a network switch or injector.
For PoE to work, the device must have a PoE-compatible receiver and a powered device (PD) that can convert the DC power into usable energy. The network switch or injector acts as the power source and regulates and delivers the correct amount of power to each connected PD.
